A COURSE SYLLABUS and CONTRACT for ENGLISH19

BOOKS:

PURPOSE:

English 19 is designed to help the student to read, to discuss, to listen,to write, and to think. Emphasis will be placed on the writing of effectivesentences and paragraphs.

STUDENTS' MATERIALS:

ATTENDANCE:

A student is allowed only the number of absences that a class meetsin one week, i.e. three 1 hour absences for the day course thatmeets three times a week and two 1 hour and 15 minute absences for theday course that meets only twice a week.

A student is asked to anticipate absences and to arrange make-up sessionson "pre-announced" assignments before returning to class.

Regular punctual attendance, diligent participation, and courteous behaviorare expected of all students. I will drop from the class any studentwho is excessively absent or who neglects classwork.

GRADING:

Final grades will be determined on the basis of attendance, compositiongrades, and your performance on quizzes and exams.

Letter grades will be based on the total number of points that youhave accumulated throughout the semester.

PLAGIARISM:

Plagiarism is defined as follows: "to steal and use (the ideasor writings of another) as one's own." Any part of a paper thatshows any evidence of copying "word for word" from an outsidesource or from another student's paper is NOT acceptable and may resultin an F on the paper and/or an F in the course at the discretion of theinstructor.

INCOMPLETES:

Incomplete grades are given only at the instructor's discretion.

This form is to be used by students who are currently enrolled in this course.
